These are my
grandparents on my mother's side, Roy and Maggie Barnett, otherwise known
as "Mamaw and Papaw" (it's a hillbilly thing). They are
both deceased. Papaw died in December, 1986 and Mamaw, March 18,
1998.
They were the best
grandparents!! I have such good memories of them both. I can
only hope that my own grandchildren remember me in the same light.
My Papaw was a
retired carpenter, and Mamaw had all sorts of talents. She was a
great cook, an incredible seamstress, and she made beautiful quilts.
When we moved from
Kentucky to Illinois we would go home to visit at least once a year every
year up until Mamaw died. There were several times when I actually
came back to Kentucky and lived with them.
Mamaw would always
have a pot of green beans and new potatoes for me along with a pan of
cornbread. I've tried my best to make cornbread like she did, and I
just can't get it right. But I'll keep working on it. |
